A walking tour of social enterprises

The social enterprise scene in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver is one of the most mature and dense clusters of social enterprise in North America.  This tour, led by Mission Possible Neighbours will visit Potluck Cafe Society, Community Window, and Embers.  This tour is limited to 20 participants. You can register when you purchase your ticket. Please register early to avoid disappointment. Lunch included.  

About the field visits:

Mission Possible is summed up as People, Purpose, Paycheque.  Since 1992 Mission Possible has walked alongside people challenged by homelessness and poverty. Through its employment readiness program and social enterprises Mission Possible is transforming lives by helping people experience a renewed sense of dignity and purpose through meaningful work. As a leading community economic development agency, Mission Possible currently runs two social enterprises, MP Maintenance and MP Neighbours, that employ an average of 50 individuals per year in transitional jobs. 

Potluck's mission is to transform lives by creating jobs and providing healthy food for people living in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES).  Potluck Café Society is a registered charity and social enterprise providing food, training, and job opportunities to residents of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Potluck has served over 200, 000 meals and created over 150, 000 employment hours.

The Community Window is a new iteration of the Community Thrift & Vintage - a Social Enterprise in which all profits go to the PHS Community Services Society.  The community window runs an integrated peer program that employs women living in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver as an opportunity in transitional periods of their lives to build skills in a supportive work environment.

EMBERS, the Eastside Movement for Business and Economic Renewal Society, is a registered community economic development charity located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Since 2001, EMBERS has helped thousands of people facing barriers to work lead productive, fulfilling lives by offering economic and employment opportunities – including job placements, training and support.
